As a child, birthdays are utterly amazing. You get loads of presents, plenty of attention, your choice of food. Nothing is too much trouble for the average child growing up. But as we age, making birthday’s awesome takes more of a backseat. Life get’s in the way. Until we get to the point where it’s just an exchange of good wishes, maybe a present and then back on to our day.
Which is a real shame. I mean, yeah we all have to grow up. We get careers, responsibilities and families of our own. And when it comes to children in our family, we spend the time making their birthday awesome. Well I want to help you bring that back to the adults in your life too. Let’s put the magic back into birthdays and ensure that at least one day a year is amazing for each and every one of us.
So to that end, here’s a list of ideas to inspire you.
Six Ways To Make Birthday’s Awesome Again
- Throw a party for the person. I don’t mean any old party. I mean an old-fashioned, kids birthday party. Put on some music from when they were young. Get jelly, ice cream, fingers foods, sandwiches cut up into triangles, lots of different punches (suitably adulted up with alcohol) and make it lots of fun! Adding bunting, colorful table cloths and hats will add an extra dimension. Bonus points if it’s a surprise party!
- Make a day of it. What do they like to do? Then do that! Go out of your way to do all their favorite things. Take them to their favorite restaurant, their favorite water park. Whatever they like to do, plan it into your day. Make each destination a surprise and keep the fun going all day.
- Spread out their gifts throughout the day / week of their birthday. Mostly we are used to handing over gifts and then we move on to the rest of our day. Keep the magic flowing by spreading out your gifting.
- Care Packages are an especially thoughtful gift. It could be a romantic package, food hamper or a survival package for a single friend. Either way, fill it with thoughtful gifts and a hand written note and it’s sure to go down an absolute storm!
- Lots and lots of cards. Let’s face it. the suggestions above all take a certain amount of money. Something we can’t all budget for. So what do you do to make someone feel special if you are on a tighter budget? Make them cards with thoughtful notes and send them to them over the course of their birthday week. It shows you are thinking about them and care for them.
- Bucket Lists can be another great effect way to make someone feel special. Have them write a birthday bucket list and then work your way through it with them.
