A guide to healthy eating

I love this guide from the Australian government. It illustrates perfectly a guide to healthy eating. It’s something that people seem to struggle with. But in all reality, eating healthy can be broken down quite simply. Eat 95% healthily, but also treat yourself.

If you don’t understand what I mean from that, check out the infographic below. It’s basically broken down like this.

Eat lots of the main food groups (grains, lean meats, vegetables, fruits, beans). These will be beneficial to you. Drink a ton of water each day. It’s great to keep you hydrated and it will also keep you feeling full.

As for junk food and alcohol? Sure, go ahead. Just keep it to small amounts and not too often. And don’t beat yourself up about it. Life happens. We all have bad days. Parties to go to.

The only extra recommendation I would make is this. Track your calories. Eating healthily is great, but if you want to lose weight too, you need to be tracking what you eat. Apps like MyFitnessPal are great for this. They are free, easy to use and let you know how much you are eating. They can also be used to keep a track of your macros. I.e. how much fat, carbs and protein you have consumed. Heck, even if you are not trying to lose weight, it’s a great way to learn more about what you put into your body.
